About This Work

The trees, bent through constant exposure to the prevailing winds, act as a pointer towards the reason for the windmill's exigent labour or its very existence: not in an ontological sense, but in a sense of defiance. Defiance against the world and its injustices; defiance against all that is negative in the Human Condition. In that sense, the windmill represents a triumph, not just for the Dutch but for all of humanity in its continuing struggle for a just world.
