About This Work
The dichotomy between the evident urban day-to-day concerns of the woman cyclist in Gouda, the Netherlands, and her timeless relationship with the remnants of medieval life around her, posits certain questions. The woman's tense features, as well as her rigid dynamic, indicate that dramatic events have taken place or will happen in her life. In that sense, the image is metaphorical in the sense of a certain idea of the passage of time, and the spectator moves within this interplay.
