About This Work
Julius Caesar conquered Britain by being awesome, in the classical sense of the word. This contemporary statue, in the British Museum in London, shows his power. With a background of patterns and neoclassical architecture, it is easy to imagine yourself subjugated to the Roman empire. Of course this picture is metaphorical, in that we are all subjugated by higher powers - be they a deity, a worldly poer, or simply our finite lifespan.
