About This Work
The quintessential Dutch nature of a bicycle in Schoonhoven, in the middle of Holland, is further emphasised by the background which consists of a canal plus Dutch architecture whose origins lie in the Golden Age of the 1600s. Thus bringing the present into the past and the past into the present, this image, with its stark monochrome dynamic, represents all that is Dutch about The Netherlands, and thus is a metaphor for the humanity that binds us all through our very differences.
