"The best laid plans gang oft agley"–Unlike the usual Dutch Bicycle symbolism, this bicycle, on a Dutch canal, evidently symbolizes something different: broken plans, perhaps, or lost hopes; or perhaps the opposite, hope against the odds. The esthetic seems very disturbing in light of the accessibility of the work.
