About This Work
Turning things around, the photographer here has the statues behind Piazza Venezia in Rome staring at the world, rather than the other way around. In that way, we are reminded that the past still exists on a very real level. We have to ask, if the past could look at us and judge our stewardship of the world, how would it judge us? Existential questions like that can be uncomfortable, but they are necessary both to moderate ourselves, and also to extend our intimate relationship with that past.
